As part of our four-year Jobs for Nature project funded by Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) to improve areas of Lake Dunstan’s shoreline and discover the communities concerns and aspirations for its future, the Lake Dunstan Charitable Trust are thrilled to announce that Shaping our Future has been contracted to create a community vision for our extraordinary Lake Dunstan.

Formed in 2011, Shaping Our Future (SoF) is an independent, apolitical, non-profit organisation with the goal of giving communities an opportunity to shape their own future. Working with the community, they help produce long-term visions and roadmaps for the future as districts continue to go through rapid changes such as expansion, environmental degradation and disruption from Covid-19. SoF ensures the community gets a chance to guide today’s decision-makers into the future and collaboratively works to create a useful tool for all projects that will contribute towards a better future.

SoF has extensive experience and has produced many valuable reports such as the Wakatipu water report and Glenorchy community visioning report. Using a combination of public forums, surveys, host talks and volunteer task forces, the final report will deliver recommendations that reflect community consensus which can then be presented to the government, councils and stakeholders within the region.

SoF believes that the more voices the better the vision and we hope the Cromwell community will get behind this process to ensure their voice is included in the future of our young lake that has great potential and a promising future if we are all involved in the decision making.

The Trust believes SoF are in the best position to provide an independent assessment and process to work with the community to develop the future lake vision document and look forward to working with them to deliver the Lake Dunstan Vision document for the community.
