Community Planting

October 2022: McNulty Inlet

A huge thank you to all the amazing community members, groups and businesses that joined us in October to plant 10,000 natives in McNulty Inlet. We were overwhelmed by the strong community spirit and passion to connect not only with our local environment but with each other. Despite the strong spring winds, over 140 people came together to plant and protect 8,000 plants in two days!

This event was a partnership between LDCT, Te Tapu o Tāne, Trees that count, and LINZ to combine the objectives of our jobs for Nature project with the celebration of Queen Elisabeth II Jubilee and legacy. We look forward to watching these plants grow alongside our community and supporting more birdlife and outdoor exploration and play.

A huge thank you to the Te Tapu o Tāne crew for prepping the site, supporting volunteers and adding the finishing touches to the site so our community can visit, explore and connect with this incredible project. We also want to that Wai Wanaka for their hard mahi and help over the weekend!

Local Business Day

A huge thank you to Checketts McKay Law and Landpro Ltd who gave their staff a paid afternoon off to come and plant natives for the trust. Around 60 staff between the two companies joined us for 3 hours to plant and guard over 200 plants- this is a massive effort and huge support to our restoration project!
