Fulton Hogan are making fantastic progress in the removal of driftwood in the Kawarau Arm. In just four days they have covered around 900m of the shoreline from Richards Beach to Butchers Drive. It is the first time this part of the arm has been cleared and we cannot wait to see all the work finished. Great work Fulton Hogan and Contact Energy! The method is to use one digger to collect all the driftwood on the shoreline and another to come along and load it onto a truck. Fulton Hogan explained that the diggers are using the shallows to move the driftwood around and thus avoiding damaging the new bike track. This is Awesome news!
As you can see from the pictures above, there difference is obvious and fantastic! It may still look a little messy but, once the sediment settles and small pieces of driftwood float downstream, it will be beautiful once again.
