What are we meant to have growing on our shoreline?

Our Bridge to bridge project is about saving and restoring the biodiversity of our shoreline and creating a legacy that impacts the lives of everyone that lives near and visits Lake Dunstan well into the future.
For over 30 years, our shoreline has been at the mercy of flooding, rabbits, wind, scorching sun and low rainfall. All these factors make growth rates and success difficult due to poor nutrient and irrigation properties along the shoreline. With hard work and patience, we can make this shoreline a healthy and happy place for both humans and wildlife.
Information on some of the native species we will be planting can now be found on our website. Click below to learn more.

e are excited to announce that after a competitive tender process, Rough and Milne have been selected as the Landscape Architects to work with the LDCT and the wider Cromwell community.

In their tender, Rough and Milne said 'We recognise the Lake Dunstan design as an opportunity to create a cohesive vernacular of planting, management, interrelated elements and spaces around the area. We would endeavor to create connected, meaningful, dynamic and sustainable design through strategic and inspired use of nature, history, and culture.

We will keep you updated on progress over the next few weeks. In the meantime, check out some of the previous projects by Rough and Milne in the link below.

Today LDCT received an amazing boost in funding from LINZ as part of their jobs for nature programme. This Funding will allow us to deliver 10 jobs over the next four years that will focus on landscape restoration, community outreach, and the development of a shared community vision and plan for Lake Dunstan.

The Government’s Jobs for Nature programme aims to increase nature-based jobs that benefit the environment and support the economic recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic.
