Despite level 2 restrictions we had a fantastic turnout, with 65 people came along and luckily is was amazing weather! Over the space of 3 hours, we worked to clear 5 km of shoreline to ease access to the water and make it a safer environment for people and animals. Hard work and many hands allowed us to remove an amazing 15 trailers of weeds (mainly lupins) and 2 trailers of rubbish. Lupins thrive along shorelines, quickly cutting off access and creating unfavourable conditions for local species. Their removal means we now have easy access for swimmers, kayakers and pets wanting to taking a dip!
The rubbish comprised of a variety of material, including bottles, glass and metal which are a hazard to both animals and people. This clean up has come at the right time, just before the school holidays, where there will be a lot of activity around the lake. It is now much safer for people to play, explore and relax.
