Last week we had the pleasure of visiting one the the Felton Road Winery vineyards where they have been doing some ecosystem restoration. It was incredible to see the transformation from one side of the road to the other and how our natives where flourishing in this newly transformed area.
Otago is the worse region in NZ for habitat destruction and this is very evident in Cromwell. Our history of clearing land for hunting, mining and farming has caused many endemic species to the area to become threatened with extinction. The only way we can help these species is by getting our hands dirty and taking the initiative to do projects like this at Felton Road.
There is no denying that the newly restored area looks a thousand times better than a stream crowded with invasive plants. Wouldn't it be great if all of Cromwell could look like this?! With hard work, passion and determination we can repair the damage to the region and return it to its former glory.
Every life has a right to a healthy and happy home and we have the power to do just that!
